Alumni Dues Program - Making A Difference

2010 marks a historic year for the Epsilon Upsilon Alumni Chapter of Kappa Sigma. This year the alumni association will seek unprecedented growth both in membership and in dues collected.

VISION STATEMENT
With active participation from every decade of Epsilon Upsilon, build a subscription-based dues program made up of no less than 250 members paying on average $30 per month to fund Scholarships, Member Recruitment & Events, Capital Improvement Projects, Philanthropy and Finances.

THE PARADIGM SHIFT
Historically, when the alumni association needed to raise money, the strategy was to approach “key” alumni and ask them write big checks to cover major projects. Conversely, this campaign will focus on broad participation from the entire alumni base…both young and old, regardless of their financial status. By asking for small, monthly installment payments of $25, $35 or $50 per month, the alumni association will build a significant and predictable recurring revenue stream to fund the delivery of its goals.  Equally important, the focus will be to return a significant portion of dues back to its members.

THE GOAL
Build a subscription-based dues program to fund an annual budget of $90,000. 250 members paying $30 per month, on average, achieves this goal.

KEYS TO SUCCESS
1.  Broad Adoption – We must attract new members and to do this we will create new events beyond the traditional golf tournament and homecoming. This is key to sustainability.
2.  Communication At Every Level – Beyond the website, email and all the other technology we have at our disposal, we need members to get on the phone and reach out to brothers and get them involved. There is no greater motivation than hearing from a pledge brother you haven’t spoken with in 25 years.
3.  Real Purpose For Giving – In addition to returning value directly back to the members, the members themselves must feel compelled to give something back. Scholarships and mentoring programs for undergraduates along with charitable causes are a great way to demonstrate this success factor. This program IS NOT solely about funding Alumni events.

UTILIZATION OF FUNDS
Dues will center around scholarship, alumni recruitment, capital improvement projects for the Chapter House, event planning, philanthropy and finance/operations. Priority wise, these projects will shift over the years. For example, starting out greater focus will be placed on alumni events and membership recruitment to get the program spun up. As the program gains traction, more dollars can be used for scholarship and philanthropy.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU, THE MEMBER
This program is designed to "give back" to its participating members each year. For example, as a Gold Level ($50/month) member, your entry fee ($125) into the golf tournament as well as the evening banquet (Hors D'oerves & Drinks - $125 per couple) for you and your significant other are free of charge. That's $250 right back in your pocket if you play in the golf tournament each year. Another way to look at it is that you're not paying $50 a month for dues, you're really paying $29.16 ($600-$250 = $350 / 12 = $29.16).
